French dog breeders imported some very small Bulldogs in the 1800s from Great Britain, where the English Bulldog was developed, and bred them with French Terriers.
The result is a little French Bulldog with large rounded ears, big dark round eyes and a little pug nose with a subtle underbite. The head is not as big as the English Bulldog. The dog has wider shoulders gets narrower toward the tail which is straight or curled. French Bulldogs come in brindle, fawn, white, black and combinations with white. The skin is loose, soft and is fun to pet.
The French Bulldog is a pleasant, playful, affectionate companion. Kind and very funny with a comical personality. It is smart yet very poised and alert. Bulldogs need companionship so they play well with other dogs and animals, but bond more to one person. They need training in our own training classes. They do not like to be hit or yanked around sharply. They are enthusiastic but not yappy and loud. This breed is good with older children. Bulldogs may drool and slobber but Frenchies generally don't.
All bulldogs are sensitive to hot or cold weather and can get chilly easily in cold weather. They need air conditioning in very hot weather. Be sure to buy them warm doggy clothing available in our store for Winter. This breed is good for apartments, play nicely indoors and don't really need a yard. This easy-care dog needs only regular brushings.
